Seventeen-year-old Catherine Morland has been reading far too many “horrid” gothic novels and would love to encounter some gothic-style terror – however, the superficial world of Bath proves hazardous enough. Though Austen's fallible heroine is dangerously sweet natured, innocence, and sometime self-delusional, she is repeatedly drawn into scrapes and situations. Eventually, she triumphs, blossoming into a sensitive woman who learns truths about love, life, and the heady power of literature.
