Ambroise Firmin Didot, born 21 December 1790 in Paris where he died on 22 February 1876, was a French printer, publisher, Hellenist and art collector. The eldest son of Firmin Didot (1764-1836), he ran the Didot House with his younger brother, Hyacinthe Firmin Didot. A student of the scholar Adamántios Koraïs (who, out of friendship and esteem, volunteered to teach him Greek starting in 1808), Didot found a lifelong interest in the plight of the Greeks under Ottoman rule. He donated books to the Chios school library and travelled to Greece and the East in 1816. In 1824, he participated in the creation of the Philhellène Committee in Paris.
